Our Story
a landmark’s genesis
Established in 1913 as the Morosco Theatre, our venue was the brainchild of impresario Oliver Morosco. Designed by the architectural firm Morgan, Walls & Morgan, with interiors by Alfred F. Rosenheim, the theater was part of the Garland Building at 744 S. Broadway.

1913
The Beginning
The Morosco Theatre opens as a Broadway-style playhouse, designed by Morgan, Walls & Morgan with interiors by Alfred F. Rosenheim.
1928
A Shift in Entertainment
The venue transitions to vaudeville and silent films, adapting to the changing entertainment landscape.
1930s
THE PRESIDENT THEATRE ERA
Renamed the President Theatre, it becomes Los Angeles' first continuous newsreel cinema, screening world events 24/7.
1940s
The globe theatre name is born
Rebranded as the Globe Theatre, expanding beyond newsreels to feature live performances and motion pictures.
1950s
The Hollywood Boom
The theatre hosts Hollywood premieres and celebrity events, cementing its place in LA’s entertainment scene.
1960s-1986
Movie Theater Era
The Globe becomes a predominantly Spanish movie Theatre under the management of Metropolitan before it was sold in 1986.
1987
Converted to a Swap Meet
The original orchestra section and orchestra pit are leveled, and the theatre is repurposed for a swap meet, stepping away from entertainment.
1995
A NEW ERA BEGINS
The Globe Theatre turns into a nightclub and undergoes a various restorations in three phases. First as Club Orion, then Club 740, and finally the Globe Theatre, gradually reclaiming its role as a premier event venue in downtown LA.
2025
A Venue Reimagined
Now a modern event and production space, the Globe Theatre blends historic grandeur with state-of-the-art production capabilities for concerts, film shoots, and private events.
